WELCOME TO THE MOVEMENT FOR HEALTHIER NORTH CAROLINA CAMPUSES
Tobacco-free campuse policies are an important part of student development, campus greening efforts and healthy campus initiatives.
What is the North Carolina Tobacco-Free Colleges Initiative? The NC Tobacco-Free Colleges Initiative works to empower college campuses to challenge the tobacco status quo and protect students, employees, and visitors from the harms of secondhand smoke. The Initiative’s regional coordinators work with coalitions to promote policy adoption, reduce tobacco-related health disparities, and promote access to tobacco cessation services among college students.
Why are tobacco-free policies important? Join the movement for clean, safe air on your campus. We can help connect you with resources and others interested in campuses where everyone can breathe easier. Reach out to one of our regional coordinator (link) today and see resources available to you.
What do you need to know to pass a policy on your campus? Find out how (and why!) to promote student wellness through tobacco-free policies and tobacco cessation services. We can provide the resources and support to make policy adoption simple and effective.
Why? Because we've all lost someone to a tobacco-related disease and college students deserve safe, clean air. College tobacco-free policies are successful to promote a tobacco-free social norm. Young adults (age 18-24) smoke at the highest rates and quitting smoking before age 30 can drastically reduce risk of tobacco-related diseases. Most smokers have tried to quit, and we work to make accessing cessation services easier on campus.
